Atletico Madrid Seize Control with 2-0 Half-Time Lead Against Dortmund

Strong Start Gives Hosts Advantage in Champions League Quarter-Final

De Paul and Lino Strike Early

Atletico Madrid made a confident start to their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, racing into a 2-0 half-time lead at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. Goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino put the Spanish side in a commanding position ahead of the second leg in Germany next week.

The hosts were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the 17th minute. De Paul latched onto a loose ball in the Dortmund penalty area and fired it past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from close range.

Atletico continued to press and doubled their advantage just nine minutes later. A sweeping move down the right flank saw Marcos Llorente cross for Lino, who tapped in from a few yards out.

Dortmund struggled to gain a foothold in the game and rarely threatened the Atletico goal. They will need a much-improved performance in the second leg if they are to overturn the deficit and reach the semi-finals.
