Manchester United 2013/14 Squad Guide

Club Overview

The 2013/14 season marked Manchester United's 22nd campaign in the Premier League and their 39th consecutive year in the English top flight. The club had enjoyed a successful 2012/13 season, winning the Premier League title and reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. However, manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of that season, and David Moyes was appointed as his replacement.

Squad Changes

Moyes made a number of changes to the squad during the summer transfer window. He signed defender Marouane Fellaini from Everton for a fee of £27.5 million and midfielder Juan Mata from Chelsea for a fee of £37.1 million. He also allowed several players to leave the club, including Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Nani.

Season Summary

Manchester United's 2013/14 season was a disappointing one by their standards. They finished seventh in the Premier League, their lowest league finish since 1990. They also exited the FA Cup in the third round and the League Cup in the semi-finals. David Moyes was sacked as manager in April 2014, and Ryan Giggs was appointed as interim manager until the end of the season. Manchester United appointed Louis van Gaal as their new manager in May 2014.
