Ime Udoka officially named interim, Boston Celtics head coach
Udoka becomes 18th head coach in franchise history
Udoka has 7 years of NBA playing experience
The Boston Celtics have officially named Ime Udoka as the franchise's next head coach, the team announced Thursday. Udoka, a seven-year NBA veteran, becomes the 18th head coach in Celtics history.
Udoka spent the last season as an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs for seven seasons.
As a player, Udoka played for five different NBA teams, including the Celtics. He was a member of the Celtics' 2008 NBA championship team.
Udoka's hiring comes after the Celtics fired Brad Stevens last month. Stevens had been the Celtics' head coach for eight seasons.
